History

Townships are a product of Michigan's early history.  Michigan is one of 20 states that currently has some form of township government.  There are 1242 townships in Michigan.

Madison Township was organized March 7, 1834 and became a Charter Township in 1980.  Madison Township is located in the southern part of Lenawee County.

Geographic

The township is comprised of a total of 30.9 square miles of which 30.7 square miles of it is land and 0.2 is water.

Demographics

Last census taken in 2010, Madison had a population of 8,621 with 2,365 households and with 1,751 families residing in the township.  The population density was 283.7 per square mile.  There are 2,504 housing units at an average density of 78.2 square miles.

      Trash Stickers $40 per 10 pack effective immediately

 

Monthly Board meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.

The Township now accepts credit card and debit card payments in office and online (Utilities).  There is a 3% fee charged when paying with a credit or debit card.  Accepted cards:  Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.

Public Act 102 of 2012 signed into law 04/19/2012, prohibits the open burning of several household trash items that pose a danger to human health and the environment.

Prohibit the open burning of household trash that contain:  Plastic, rubber, foam, chemically treated wood, textiles, electronics, chemicals or hazardous materials.
